Rugby at Selborne Primary
Rugby plays a major part of Selborne Primary’s tradition. This popular sport forms part of our winter extra-mural program and is therefore played in the second and third term. We are privileged to be able to field A, B and C teams from U9 through to U13. Our boys participate in a league that is set up by Border Rugby. This enables Selborne to play against all the best schools in the East London area. These fixtures take place every Wednesday. We also have the privilege of competing in Derby days against Dale, Queens, St Andrews and Grey PE. Retired Springbok lock, Mark Andrews, is one of our favourite “sons”. ...top
Hockey at Selborne Primary
Hockey at Selborne has grown tremendously and has achieved wonderful results in the past few years. This sport is played in the second and third terms of the year. The U/9 and u/10 teams play ‘six aside.” These age groups participate in Hockey festivals every second Tuesday. The boys in the u/11 age group play “eight aside” and also have the opportunity to participate in Hockey Festivals every second Tuesday. The u/13 teams play with a full complement of players and participate in League matches every Tuesday or Friday. Derby days against Dale, Queens, St Andrews and Grey PE are also a highlight on the Hockey calendar....top
Squash at Selborne Primary
Squash, like most sports at Selborne, is growing fast. The Top Ten boys in our school have an opportunity to represent Selborne against the best schools in the Border region. All other keen squash boys also play against each other in order to achieve top ten status. ...top
Soccer at Selborne Primary
Soccer at Selborne has a long - standing history and is one of the sports that has been played the longest. Soccer, like rugby, is played in the second and third term of the year. Selborne participates in the League fixtures and the Knockout cup. The U/11 A, B and C teams play league fixtures every Thursday and the U/9A and B teams play on a Monday.
All Grade 2, U/9C, U/11D and U/13D teams play in festivals on selected Saturdays.

Swimming at Selborne Primary
Swimming at Selborne has always been a force to be reckoned with. Many of our boys have not only represented their province but also their country. Selborne fields A, B and C league teams for all age groups from U7 to U13. The A league swimmers concentrate on their Border trials in the first and fourth term, while the B and C leagues participate in the Inter-school relay galas which take place every second Tuesday during the same terms. ...top
Cricket at Selborne Primary
Cricket is a sport all Selbornians pride themselves on. This sport forms part of our summer extra-mural program and therefore takes place in the first and fourth term of the year. The top eleven U/9’s play hardball and Mini cricket is available for rest of the boys. Selborne fields A and B teams in the U/10, U/11 and U/13 age groups. These teams play in league fixtures every Wednesday and Thursday. The U/13’s also field a C team which plays on a Thursday. Derby days, which are held on a Saturday, are always a highlight of the season. Selborne is privileged to be able to play against Dale, Queens, St Andrews and Grey PE. For the enthusiastic boys that unfortunately do not make these teams, there is the “Summer Series” which they can get involved in. The U/10’s are called the Junior Summer Series and they play on a Friday. The Middle Summer Series consists of U/11’s. They play on a Tuesday, and the Senior Summer Series, U13’s, on a Monday. Water Polo at Selborne Primary
Water polo is one of the youngest, but fastest growing sporting activities here at Selborne. Selborne has entered two U13 teams and one U11 team in the League set up by Border Waterpolo. A special internal league has also been set up for all U11 players who do not get the opportunity to participate in the official League section. We are very proud to say that we have had the opportunity, on numerous occasions, to play some of the best schools in the country. Our U13 A team plays in the Grey PE Tournament in the first term and also takes part in the SACS Water polo Tournament in the fourth term....top
Tennis at Selborne Primary
Tennis at Selborne has grown in strength over the past year. With the help of professional coaches, our players have mastered the art of the game. Selborne has five teams in the senior section which participate in the Border league. The teams consist of the U10 A, B and C teams as well as the D1 and D2 teams. The U7, U8 and U9 age groups participate in a ladder system. This system is used in these age groups so as to rate the players according to strength....top
Cross Country at Selborne Primary
Cross Country is a popular sport at Selborne. Our boys strive to maintain their fitness at all times. Selborne is proud of all boys that participate in this sport. During the second and third term, Cross Country races are held every Friday at various schools around East London. We have a school Cross Country that caters for all our boys and is run during the third term....top
Chess at Selborne Primary
The Chess club at Selborne has seen more and more determined and enthusiastic Selbornians over the years putting their skills to the test. Our school has entered three teams into the Border League, namely; Senior Primary A and B and a Foundation Phase team. Selborne is proud of the many boys who have made the Border team. The chess teams also participate in a Derby day against Grey PE twice a year....top
Golf at Selborne Primary
In 2007, for the first time in SELBORNE Primary’s history, golf was started. At this stage only Grade 6 and 7 boys play. Their practices take place in the first and fourth term. As there are no league fixtures, Selborne arranges to play against Grey PE and Queens College during Derby Days. ...top
